The U.S. Golf Association announced a four-year deal Wednesday with the Royal Bank of Scotland, the fourth corporate partnership it has signed in 18 months after going 113 years without one. "We were looking for real top companies that shared a cultural vision with the USGA and really understood the game of golf, which is what we're all about," Pete Bevacqua, chief business officer of the USGA,...

Annika to stay involved as tourney host (AP)
Annika Sorenstam's decision to retire won't change her involvement in the Ginn Tribute, the tournament the LPGA star will host in two weeks. "Being the hostess and being a part of the game is something I'm going to continue in the future," said Sorenstam, who announced Tuesday that she would step away from the LPGA Tour after this season.

Sawgrass playoff raises some questions (AP)
Starting a sudden-death playoff on a par 3 is rare, but not unprecedented. It last happened on the PGA Tour eight years ago at the BellSouth Classic, when the playoff between Phil Mickelson and Gary Nicklaus began on the 16th hole because the rest of the course was covered with water. This time, tour officials purposely sought out a hole surrounded by water.

Sorenstam to retire after season (AP)

Annika Sorenstam, left, of Sweden., and her fiance Mike McGee, smile after Sorenstam announced that she will retire from the LPGA Tour at a press conference at the Sybase Classic golf tournament at Upper Montclair Country Club in Clifton, N.J., Tuesday, May 13, 2008. Sorenstam who began her professional career in 1992 will retire at the conclusion of the 2008 LPGA season.

Annika Sorenstam has few peers on the LPGA Tour after one of the brightest careers in golf. So when it came time to announce her retirement, she drew a parallel to a star in a different sport. Sorenstam recalled what Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre said when he called it quits in March. "One of the things he said was that he loved the competition but not the daily grind," she said.

DULUTH, Ga. (AP)-- David Duval got started on the next tournament in his latest comeback at one of his favorite restaurants. Waffle House. "I had eggs, chicken, toast, grits and a double order of hash browns," Duval said, breaking into a smile that has seemed so hard to muster through much of his golfing career.

Woods hopes to play Memorial in 2 weeks (AP)
Tiger Woods is chipping and putting again, and he hopes to play in the Memorial in two weeks. But even if he can't compete until the U.S. Open, he doesn't expect the same result as his last layoff during a season. Two years ago, Woods didn't play for nine weeks while coping with the death of his father.
